We are Kari and Stefan, recently moved from East Anglia in England to Assynt in the north west Highlands of Scotland. We moved here to be closer to nature and the elements, and for the opportunity to play a part in improving the landscape for wildlife. We had spent many years in Sweden (Stefan is part Swedish) running wildlife-guiding trips and after visiting Assynt decided this should be our new base in the UK. We were drawn by the spectacular other-worldly landscape encompassing mountains, lochs and sea. We are custodians of a croft in the tiny hamlet of Nedd, and plan to enhance the patch of Atlantic rainforest we have, planting more trees and creating a safe haven for birds, flowers and all of nature’s beauty. It’s come as a surprise to our friends and family that we moved this far north to start this new adventure but leaving the busyness of the south of England behind has been an easy aspect of the change.
We bought West Coast Hideaways, the old croft house and croft in 2023 and continue the good work of the previous owners to look after the renovated house, maintain the croft and cherish the orchard they planted. We especially enjoy sharing the experience of the north west Highlands with many visitors from abroad and at home. Our three luxury self-catering shepherd huts are a pleasure to manage. Visitors appreciate the high standard of the accommodation and in particular the spectacular unspoilt views the three huts command over Loch Nedd, mountains and the coastline to the north.
The raw beauty of the landscape is with us in every season. Even during the winter months when the weather can be wild, the snow-capped mountains, starry nights and northern lights can wow you. We hope you will stay with us and experience the beauty that this corner of Scotland has to offer.
